AmCham Cambodia Launches Hospitality and Tourism Task Force to Boost Cambodia’s Tourism Industry

The American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, known as AmCham Cambodia, is creating a new Hospitality and Tourism Task Force to help address challenges facing Cambodia’s tourism and hospitality industries. The initiative is designed to bring together industry experience, identify practical solutions and develop strategic recommendations that can be presented to both the Royal Government of Cambodia and businesses.

The task force comes at a time when tourism and hospitality companies are looking for ways to respond to current market difficulties while preparing for longer term growth. AmCham Cambodia plans to collect feedback from its members and other industry stakeholders before turning those insights into recommendations for the Government Private Sector Forum, creating a direct channel for international business leaders to raise operational concerns and propose solutions.

“AmCham Cambodia’s new Hospitality and Tourism Task Force is intended to turn industry concerns into practical recommendations for Cambodia’s tourism recovery. By bringing hospitality companies, tourism operators, policymakers and other stakeholders into closer communication, the initiative aims to identify obstacles facing the sector and develop realistic strategies for stronger private enterprise growth. The task force will also use AmCham’s participation in all 16 sector working groups of the Government Private Sector Forum as a channel for presenting industry ideas directly to the Royal Government of Cambodia. With more than 80 tourism and hospitality professionals already joining the task force’s launch event in Phnom Penh, the initiative signals a stronger push for coordinated industry advocacy, improved public private communication and a more resilient tourism economy.”

A New Platform for Cambodia’s Tourism Industry

The new task force will focus on two closely connected objectives. First, it will help develop a recovery plan to address recent difficulties affecting tourism and hospitality. Second, it will explore strategies that could support private enterprise growth in these sectors.

For businesses operating in hotels, restaurants, travel, tourism services and related industries, having a coordinated platform for sharing concerns could provide an important avenue for communicating challenges that individual companies may struggle to raise directly. AmCham Cambodia intends to gather feedback from its members and industry stakeholders before developing its recommendations, giving businesses an opportunity to contribute practical experience to the process.

AmCham Gains Direct Access to Government Private Sector Dialogue

A major reason behind the task force’s creation is AmCham Cambodia’s recent invitation to participate across all 16 sector working groups of the Government Private Sector Forum. According to Executive Director Chris McCarthy, the opportunity allows international business leaders to present ideas and operational issues directly to the Royal Government of Cambodia.

McCarthy said that because AmCham represents many companies involved in hospitality and tourism, the organisation decided to establish the task force to gather industry input and bring concrete ideas to the next Government Private Sector Forum meeting. This gives the initiative a broader purpose than industry networking because feedback collected from businesses could potentially feed into government discussions and policy recommendations.

Industry Feedback Will Shape the Recommendations

AmCham Cambodia plans to use feedback from its members and other industry stakeholders as the foundation for the task force’s recommendations. This approach puts businesses and tourism professionals closer to the centre of discussions about sector recovery.

The task force will also seek stronger cooperation among hospitality businesses, tourism operators, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders. Such cooperation is important for an industry that depends on multiple parts of the economy working together, including accommodation, food and beverage, transportation, travel services and destination promotion. Better communication among these groups could help identify practical obstacles and reduce the gap between policy discussions and conditions faced by businesses on the ground.

More Than 80 Professionals Join the Launch

The task force began its mandate with a networking mixer attended by more than 80 hospitality and tourism professionals on September 8 at Sora, the rooftop bar at Rosewood Phnom Penh.

The gathering provided an opportunity for participants to discuss the role AmCham Cambodia and the new task force could play in advocating for the sector. Discussions also focused on strengthening communication between businesses and government, an issue that could become increasingly important as Cambodia works to respond to tourism challenges and build a stronger recovery.

The turnout also demonstrates that the initiative has attracted interest from professionals across the tourism and hospitality community. Bringing these voices together could help the task force develop recommendations that reflect actual business conditions rather than relying solely on high level policy perspectives.

Tourism Recovery Requires Stronger Business Government Cooperation

Tourism is closely linked to a wide range of Cambodian businesses, making sector recovery important beyond hotels and tour operators. Changes in visitor activity can affect restaurants, transportation companies, retail businesses, entertainment operators and numerous small and medium sized enterprises that depend on tourism spending.

The new task force therefore has the potential to serve as a bridge between the private sector and policymakers. By collecting operational concerns and converting them into structured recommendations, AmCham Cambodia hopes to provide decision makers with clearer information about the issues businesses are facing and the measures that could support recovery.

Task Force Targets Recovery and Long Term Growth

James Nobles, Chair of AmCham Cambodia’s Hospitality and Tourism Task Force, said, “This task force will provide a platform for hospitality and tourism professionals to raise concerns, propose practical solutions, and help develop recommendations that can support the sector’s continued recovery and long-term growth.”

The statement captures the task force’s broader ambition. Its purpose is not limited to responding to immediate tourism difficulties, but also to consider what businesses need to achieve sustainable growth over the longer term. That could make the initiative relevant to investors and entrepreneurs assessing Cambodia’s tourism economy as well as established industry operators.

A More Coordinated Approach Could Strengthen the Sector

The creation of the task force comes with an emphasis on practical recommendations rather than simply identifying problems. Its effectiveness will ultimately depend on the quality of feedback it receives, the recommendations that emerge and the extent to which those recommendations contribute to government and private sector decision making.

For Cambodia’s tourism industry, stronger communication between businesses and policymakers could provide a useful foundation for recovery. The involvement of an international business organisation such as AmCham Cambodia also gives companies an additional channel through which their operational experiences can be brought into national discussions.

A New Voice for Tourism Businesses

AmCham Cambodia’s Hospitality and Tourism Task Force represents a renewed effort to bring the private sector closer to discussions about Cambodia’s tourism recovery. By combining industry feedback, business advocacy and access to the Government Private Sector Forum, the initiative is positioned to turn concerns from tourism businesses into recommendations for policymakers.

The ultimate test will be whether those recommendations lead to practical improvements for companies and visitors. If the task force can maintain strong participation and translate industry knowledge into realistic solutions, it could become a valuable platform for supporting Cambodia’s tourism recovery while helping businesses prepare for the next stage of growth.
