Cambodia’s Capital Market Hits $720 Million Milestone: Is Investor Activity Entering a New Phase?

Cambodia’s securities market has reached a notable milestone, with 28 companies listed on the Cambodia Securities Exchange raising approximately $720 million in total capital. The figure, announced during a listing ceremony in Phnom Penh on September 10, comes as trading activity and investor participation continue to strengthen in 2026.

The market now includes 12 companies listed through equity securities and 16 through corporate debt securities. Trading momentum has also accelerated, with average daily trading volume exceeding 230,000 shares during the first eight months of 2026, nearly 150 percent higher than the 2025 level. Average daily trading value reached roughly $300,000 during the period.

“Cambodia’s capital market is entering a more active stage as listed companies have collectively raised approximately $720 million and trading activity has accelerated sharply in 2026. With 28 companies now using the securities market to raise capital, the CSX is becoming an increasingly relevant financing channel for Cambodian businesses. The rise in trading volume also points to stronger investor engagement, while the market’s emphasis on transparency, corporate governance and regulatory compliance could help build greater confidence among both domestic and international investors. For companies considering expansion, the milestone highlights the potential of Cambodia’s securities market as an alternative to traditional bank financing and as a platform for strengthening corporate credibility and accessing a broader investor base.”

CSX Listed Companies Raise Nearly $720 Million

The latest figures show that Cambodia’s capital market is gradually becoming a more established source of corporate financing. As of September 10, 12 companies had listed equity securities while another 16 had listed corporate bonds, bringing the total number of listed companies to 28. Together, they have raised approximately $720 million through the capital market.

The milestone is significant for Cambodian businesses because companies can use securities markets to diversify their sources of funding rather than relying entirely on traditional bank lending. Corporate bonds, in particular, provide companies with another route to raise longer term capital, while equity listings can provide access to investors seeking ownership opportunities.

Trading Activity Surges in 2026

The growth is not limited to the amount of capital raised. Trading activity has also accelerated considerably during the first eight months of 2026. Average daily trading volume exceeded 230,000 shares, representing an increase of nearly 150 percent compared with 2025. Average daily trading value was approximately $300,000.

The increase suggests that investor engagement with Cambodia’s securities market is strengthening. Recent market reporting also shows that August was particularly active, with average daily trading volume exceeding 580,000 shares and average daily trading value surpassing $790,000. The number of trading accounts has also grown to approximately 82,000.

Transparency Becomes a Key Advantage of Listing

Speaking at the listing ceremony, Hean Sahib, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the CSX Board of Directors, highlighted several advantages for companies that choose to list.

He said listing promotes transparency and strong corporate governance because listed companies are officially registered and must comply with regulatory requirements established by the Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia and the CSX. For companies seeking to build long term credibility, those requirements can encourage stronger internal controls, reporting practices and governance standards.

He also emphasised that listing can strengthen investor confidence by giving companies access to both domestic and international investors. For Cambodian businesses looking to expand, this wider investor base can provide an additional source of capital while potentially raising their visibility within the country's growing formal capital market.

A More Diverse Financing Option for Cambodian Businesses

The latest milestone comes at an important stage in Cambodia’s financial sector development, as businesses increasingly seek alternatives to conventional borrowing. The securities market provides companies with different instruments depending on their financing needs, including equity and debt securities.

The recent listing of sustainability bonds by LOLC Cambodia also demonstrates the expanding range of financing instruments available through the CSX. The company raised $20 million through sustainability bonds carrying a 5.75 percent coupon rate and a five year maturity, with a guarantee from the Credit Guarantee Corporation of Cambodia.

For entrepreneurs and corporate leaders, the broader lesson is that Cambodia’s capital market is developing beyond a platform primarily associated with share trading. It is increasingly being used to mobilise capital for business expansion and, through specialised instruments, support projects linked to environmental and social priorities.

Investor Confidence Remains Critical

The continued growth of trading activity will depend heavily on investor confidence. Greater transparency and corporate governance requirements can help provide investors with more reliable information when evaluating listed companies and their securities.

The role of regulators and market institutions will therefore remain important as Cambodia seeks to deepen its capital market. A stronger regulatory framework, more diversified financial instruments and broader investor participation can help create conditions for companies to raise capital while giving investors more opportunities to participate in Cambodia’s economic growth.

What the $720 Million Milestone Signals?

The CSX’s $720 million capital raising milestone reflects a gradual shift in Cambodia’s corporate financing landscape. With 28 listed companies and rising trading activity, the exchange is becoming a more visible part of the country's financial system.

For businesses considering listing, the growing market presents an opportunity to access capital, strengthen corporate governance and reach a broader pool of investors. For investors, rising trading activity and the expansion of listed securities provide signs of a developing market that could become increasingly important to Cambodia’s economic and financial ecosystem. The key takeaway is that Cambodia’s capital market is no longer simply an emerging concept. It is becoming a practical financing channel for companies and an increasingly active marketplace for investors.
