Korea’s IIDA Backs Cambodia Tourism and Investment Push: Will More Korean Visitors and Investors Follow?

Cambodia is strengthening its efforts to attract more South Korean tourists and investors following a meeting between Tourism Minister H.E. HUOT Hak and Mr. Mun Yong-Jo, President of the International Interchange Development Association (IIDA) of the Republic of Korea, at the Ministry of Tourism. The meeting, held on September 8, 2026, brought together IIDA leadership and a delegation of chief executive officers from major South Korean corporations to explore stronger cooperation in tourism, business networking and investment promotion.

The discussion focused on promoting Cambodia’s tourism potential to South Korea while creating stronger connections between people, tourism businesses and investors in both countries. The IIDA president also pledged to support joint action plans aimed at increasing travel, strengthening people to people exchanges and expanding tourism cooperation between Cambodia and South Korea.

“Cambodia is seeking to deepen its tourism and economic relationship with South Korea by working more closely with the International Interchange Development Association and major Korean businesses. The partnership is expected to help promote Cambodia as a safe and welcoming destination while encouraging more Korean tourists to visit and more South Korean investors to explore opportunities in the Kingdom. Cambodia is also highlighting its Green Season tourism campaign and broader tourism development strategy as part of efforts to diversify markets and create richer tourism products. For Korean businesses, stronger institutional cooperation could provide additional opportunities to build networks, explore Cambodia’s tourism sector and consider investment prospects in a market that continues to place tourism at the centre of its economic development strategy.”

Cambodia Seeks Stronger Tourism and Investment Links With Korea

During the meeting, Minister Huot Hak expressed his appreciation to Mun Yong Jo and the IIDA delegation for their initiative to strengthen and broaden tourism cooperation between Cambodia and South Korea. The cooperation is intended to encourage greater people to people exchanges, increase Korean tourist arrivals and support direct investment from South Korean investors.

The presence of chief executive officers from major Korean corporations added a business dimension to the discussions. Beyond attracting visitors, Cambodia is looking to deepen relationships with Korean companies and expand opportunities for investment and commercial cooperation. Stronger links between tourism and investment could create opportunities across hospitality, travel services and other businesses connected to the visitor economy.

Cambodia Highlights Stability and Tourism Potential

Minister Huot Hak highlighted Cambodia’s current political, economic and social stability, while reaffirming the country’s position as a warm, hospitable and safe destination for international visitors. These factors are important in Cambodia’s efforts to strengthen confidence among both tourists and international businesses.

The minister also highlighted the “Visit Cambodia in the Green Season” campaign, which is being implemented with airlines, travel agencies, content creators and international media. The campaign is designed to showcase Cambodia’s tourism potential, diversify visitor markets and develop richer, greener and smarter tourism products. For tourism businesses, attracting visitors during the Green Season could help create a more balanced flow of demand throughout the year.

IIDA Pledges to Promote Cambodia in South Korea

Mun Yong Jo expressed his commitment to promoting Cambodia’s political stability, socio economic progress, peace and security to people and business leaders in South Korea. According to the Ministry of Tourism, he also referred to what he witnessed during his visit to Cambodia and the information presented by the minister about the government’s efforts to combat online crimes.

The IIDA president further pledged to implement joint action plans focused on increasing people to people exchanges, boosting travel and expanding tourism between Cambodia and South Korea. Such cooperation could help strengthen Cambodia’s visibility among Korean travellers while also creating more opportunities for Korean businesses to gain a closer understanding of the Cambodian market.

IIDA Positioned as a Potential Partner for Cambodia

The International Interchange Development Association is described by Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism as a South Korea based international entity working in international cooperation, cultural exchange, education, trade, economic development and global events.

Its broad areas of activity make the association a potentially useful partner for Cambodia’s tourism and investment promotion efforts. Through its networks and connections with Korean businesses, the IIDA could help create greater exposure for Cambodian destinations while facilitating relationships between companies and institutions in the two countries.

For Cambodia, the value of such partnerships extends beyond tourism arrivals. International business networks can help connect Cambodian tourism operators and investors with overseas companies, potentially opening opportunities for partnerships, investment discussions and new tourism products.

Tourism Remains a Key Economic Priority

Minister Huot Hak reaffirmed that tourism remains a priority sector and a key economic pillar under the long term vision of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet. The government views tourism development as an important contributor to economic growth and improved livelihoods.

The latest engagement with the IIDA reflects this broader approach by combining tourism promotion with international business cooperation. Attracting more Korean visitors can increase demand for hotels, restaurants, transportation, attractions and other tourism services, while stronger investor interest could support the development and diversification of the sector.

Stronger Korea Cooperation Could Broaden Cambodia’s Tourism Market

South Korea represents an important potential source of both visitors and investment for Cambodia. Stronger promotional cooperation could help Cambodian destinations reach more Korean travellers while giving businesses in both countries greater opportunities to develop partnerships.

The proposed joint action plans also provide a framework for moving beyond promotional activities toward practical cooperation. If implemented effectively, stronger links between tourism authorities, associations and businesses could contribute to increased visitor flows and deeper economic relationships between Cambodia and South Korea.

Conclusion

Cambodia’s latest engagement with the International Interchange Development Association signals a broader effort to connect tourism promotion with international business and investment cooperation. With IIDA pledging to promote Cambodia and support joint action plans, the partnership could help strengthen the Kingdom’s presence among Korean tourists, entrepreneurs and corporate investors.

The opportunity ultimately depends on turning commitments into practical partnerships, stronger travel flows and investment projects. For Cambodia’s tourism and business sectors, closer cooperation with Korean companies and organisations could provide another pathway toward market diversification, stronger international confidence and sustainable tourism growth.
