International Construction Technology Comes to Phnom Penh

CAMBUILD 2026 was officially opened by Sokhom Pheakavanmony, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

Other senior officials and industry representatives attending included Lao Tebseyha, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction; Sok Puthivuth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications; Gerard Leeuwenburgh, Country General Manager of Informa Markets Malaysia and Cambodia; and Seng Bun Virak, President of the Cambodia Investor and Contractor Association.

The participation of government institutions and private-sector representatives reflects the exhibition's broader focus on connecting policy, technology and commercial opportunities.

Exhibition Covers the Construction Ecosystem

Gerard Leeuwenburgh said CAMBUILD had grown into a major platform for construction technology, business cooperation and knowledge exchange in Cambodia.

The 15th edition brings together numerous exhibitors and brands alongside more than 6,000 industry professionals, according to the organiser's remarks.

Products and solutions showcased at the exhibition cover a broad part of the construction ecosystem, including:

  • Building materials

  • Construction technology

  • Civil engineering solutions

  • Energy systems

  • Solar power

  • Lighting systems

  • Mechanical and electrical systems

  • HVAC systems

  • Other construction-related technologies

The international participation provides opportunities for technology transfer, business partnerships and investment discussions.

Government Sees Technology as a Development Tool

Pheakavanmony said Cambodia should use international exhibitions such as CAMBUILD to accelerate the adoption and implementation of technology.

He highlighted the potential of such events to strengthen professional capacity and encourage innovation across construction, automotive, energy and emerging sectors, including food technology.

“I do believe that this event comes at an important time as Cambodia advances in economic, industrial, infrastructure, energy and technological development.”

The remarks position the exhibition as more than a commercial display of equipment.

The event is also intended to support technology transfer, professional development, business collaboration and international knowledge exchange.

Construction Quality Remains a Key Concern

Lao Tebseyha emphasised the importance of construction materials that meet appropriate technical standards.

He said quality materials are fundamental to safe and durable structures, alongside proper structural design and engineering expertise.

Using products that comply with technical standards can help protect consumers, safeguard investments and reduce financial and environmental risks.

The focus on standards is particularly relevant as Cambodia's construction sector continues to adopt new materials, technologies and engineering solutions.

Digital Technology Enters the Building Process

Sok Puthivuth highlighted the increasing role of digital technology in Cambodia's construction, engineering and real estate sectors.

He argued that telecommunications and digital infrastructure should be incorporated into building designs from the beginning rather than added after construction is completed.

This includes infrastructure such as:

  • Fibre-optic networks

  • 5G systems

  • Other telecommunications infrastructure

  • Digital building systems

The approach reflects the growing relationship between physical infrastructure and digital connectivity.

A modern building increasingly requires not only structural and utility systems but also the telecommunications infrastructure needed to support connected services and digital applications.

Smart Buildings, AI and IoT Gain Attention

Puthivuth also called on architects, engineers and developers to embrace smart technologies, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT).

He emphasised the need to build the human skills required to support the development of Cambodia's future digital and sustainable cities.

This places technology skills alongside physical infrastructure as an important component of urban development.

Smart-building technologies can connect building systems, telecommunications networks and digital services, while AI and IoT can support data-driven management and automation.

CAMBUILD Creates Business Opportunities

For Cambodian businesses and investors, the exhibition provides an opportunity to examine technologies and products that may become increasingly relevant to the country's infrastructure development.

International exhibitors can use the event to identify local partners, distributors, contractors and potential investment opportunities.

Cambodian companies, meanwhile, can explore technologies that may improve construction efficiency, energy performance, building quality and project management.

The B2B component of the event is therefore as important as the physical exhibition itself.

Connecting Global Innovation With Cambodian Markets

The central objective of CAMBUILD 2026 is to bridge the gap between global technology and Cambodia's domestic market.

For developing markets, international exhibitions can provide a mechanism for businesses to access technologies that might otherwise require separate international sourcing and business-development efforts.

They can also create opportunities for local companies to learn directly from manufacturers and technology providers.

For Cambodia, this is particularly relevant as infrastructure development increasingly intersects with digital connectivity, energy efficiency and smart-city planning.

Angkor Times Analysis

CAMBUILD 2026 arrives at a time when Cambodia's construction sector is increasingly connected to several wider economic priorities.

Construction is no longer only about buildings and physical structures.

Modern projects increasingly require digital connectivity, energy systems, telecommunications infrastructure, automation and smart technologies.

That explains the significance of the emphasis on fibre-optic networks, 5G, AI and IoT at the exhibition.

The discussion also shows why construction standards matter. As international technologies and products enter the Cambodian market, technical quality and compliance become increasingly important for developers, contractors and investors.

The participation of more than 180 companies provides a substantial platform for Cambodian businesses to compare products, establish commercial relationships and explore new technologies.

The reported expectation of more than 10,000 visitors and delegates also indicates the scale of the business-networking opportunity surrounding the event.

For Cambodian investors and construction companies, the value of CAMBUILD will ultimately depend on what happens beyond the exhibition floor: whether meetings develop into partnerships, technologies are adopted, local skills are strengthened and international solutions are adapted to Cambodia's market requirements.

The event also points to a broader shift in construction.

The next generation of Cambodian buildings will increasingly need to be designed as connected infrastructure rather than standalone physical structures.

That means architects, engineers, developers, telecommunications providers and technology companies will increasingly need to work together from the planning stage.
